IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory - Reid Chapel
Mary Mosby Brett, 90, of Montpelier, passed away on August 10, 2023.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William Bryan Wood and Bessie Wetzler Wood; a brother, Larry Lee Wood; three husbands, Allen Mosby, with whom she had three children, Eugene Cox and Larry Brett; son, George Allen Mosby.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Pitman (Steve) and Sheila Dixon (Charlie); son, Dana Mosby; brother, George Larkin Wood; six grandchildren, Stacey Mihelich (Rusty), April Creger (Cody), Carrie Hammel (Scott), John Mosby, Nick Thompson, Ross Thompson; ten great-grandchildren, Avery, Eleanor, Madison, Anthony, Mylee, Haylee, Griffin, Cecilia, Lily, and Thomas. She also leaves behind a cherished and devoted friend, Elizabeth Ann Mauney.
Mary was a member of Hopeful Baptist church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for years. She loved Nascar, taking care of children, good ol’ southern cooking, and an endless supply of ice cream. If you visited her, you would have to turn down the volume of her classic country music because it was either on the radio or she was watching the Grand Ole Opry on TV. She loved to sit in her sunroom and crochet. She said she had no idea how many baby blankets she had made to give to new mothers. Whenever someone lost a loved one, she always made a covered dish and delivered it to the home or to the church for a reception. She was devoted to her family and friends and left behind a wonderful legacy of love for the Lord.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Hanover Manor Assisted Living and James River Hospice for their selfless and loving devotion to the physical and emotional care of our loved one.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 17th at Nelsen Funeral Home in Ashland where a service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 18th. Interment at Signal Hill Memorial Park at 11:00 am. Reception to follow at Hopeful Baptist Church at 12:00 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to Hopeful Baptist Church, 14340 Hopeful Church Rd. Montpelier, VA 23192, or a charity of your choice.
