November 2, 1942 – November 24, 2022
IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
“The hour is approaching when the message will come to us, as it comes to all, ‘Arise, and leave the home in which you lived, from the city in which you have done your business, from your family, from your friends. Arise, and take your final journey.’”
William Claude Chauncey, Sr., beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He leaves his wife, Barbara A. Chauncey, five children; William Claude Jr., Michael Brian, Stephen Eric, Danielle Lynn, and Timothy Allen Chauncey; his daughter-in-law Cassie Renee; and two grandchildren Abigail Renee and Keegan Eric.
Bill was born November 2, 1942, in Washington, DC to Claude and Evelyn Butler Chauncey. He played tackle for Washington-Lee High School and graduated in 1961. After his mother passed away when he was 18, at the request of his father, he turned down a football scholarship to remain close to his remaining family. While working and attending classes in the evening, he graduated from the University of Virginia.
He worked at Richmarr Construction that later became Encore Development his entire career. He longed for the Joe Gibbs era of his beloved Washington Redskins, never missed a Dale Earnhardt NASCAR race, or his children’s sports.
He leaves a legacy of a man devoted to his family, above all else. On Thursday, December 1, 2022, he will be laid to rest at Columbia Gardens Cemetery next to his parents and sister.
