Patricia, fondly called “Trish” by those who knew her, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the age of 76. She was born in Bethesda, Maryland on February 6, 1948 to John and Nan (Myers) Sweeney.
Trish was a gifted and passionate photojournalist and travel writer. Author to two books, “Historic Hotels and Hideaways: Washington Weekends” and “A Visitor’s Guide to the Literary South”, Trish’s love for the natural world, literature, and history are made apparent through her works both on the page and behind the lens. Trish’s photography has been featured in several nature publications such as the National Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy. Her byline has appeared in numerous publications, including The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, the Baltimore Sun, the Christian Science Monitor, and the Tennessean. Throughout her career, he was associated as a staff writer for the New York Times, the Washington Star, and Dow Jones Publications.
Trish is survived by her beloved husband, Stephen Foxwell, her sisters, Martha Clark and Mary Nan Moser, and brother Dr. John Sweeney. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service in remembrance of Trish’s life will be held on Friday, May 30th @ 3:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203.
