Joanne L. Zumwalde

Joanne L. Zumwalde of Arlington, VA passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024 after a short illness. She was 85 years old, though she never admitted to being older than 29. Joanne was the daughter of Eino and Loretta Johnson and grew up in Holden, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Zumwalde. Joanne worked as a bookkeeper in several businesses in Arlington over the years: Mary Baynes Gift Shop, F. W. Woolworth, and ESI Group. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church for well over 50 years. During her retirement, she and her husband John enjoyed traveling to many locations with the Arlington County Seniors' group. She is survived by her children: John (Brenda), David, Mark, and Diane. Joanne is also survived by her grandchildren: Brian (Lisa), Allison (Rob(fiancé)), Lydia, and Daniel; and one great grandchild: Gabriella. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard and is survived by her brother Peter (Lisa), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Murphy Funeral Home at 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on August 4, 2024. The funeral mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church at 5300 N. 10th St., Arlington, VA on August 5, 2024, followed by burial at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA.
