Don L Bauman Jr. age 77 Arlington, Virginia Passed away at home on Easter Sunday March 31, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Don was born on March 24, 1947, in Washington, D.C. to Margaret (Carroll) Bauman and Don L Bauman Sr. Don was a veteran of the US Army where he served with the Military Police during his posting to Germany and he was a member of American Legion Post 0085 in Arlington. Don had an over 40 year career as a Stationary Operating Engineer and held a First Class Operating Engineer License. Don became a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (AFL-CIO) Local 99 in 1973 where he rose to the level of President, serving in that role for many years before his retirement. Don also served in an advisory role to the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Administration and remained active in National and State level politics throughout his life, lending support to many Democratic Party candidates and outreach activities. Don was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arlington where he first attended with his parents as a child. He served on the Board of Trustees and managed all aspects of maintenance and construction for the Our Savior Church and School facilities and grounds up until very recently. Don was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He was primary guardian for his Granddaughter Angel for more than 10 years, guiding and participating in all aspects of her education, proudly celebrating her high school graduation last year. He was also active in Angel's youth sports activities serving as an assistant coach on her competitive fastpitch travel softball teams. He never missed a game! Don is survived by his Son: Timothy N. Bauman Grandchildren: Angel and Timothy Brother and Sister-in-law: Michael and Joan Bauman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held Thursday April 11 at 3:30PM Our Savior Lutheran Church 825 S. Taylor St. Arlington, VA. 22204 Interment with family (and anyone else who wishes to join) will be Friday April 12th at 12PM. Green Hill Cemetery (also known as Berryville Cemetery) 428 N.
