Obituary of Alice Helena Schilberg

IN THE CARE OF

Murphy Funeral Homes

A very sweet woman passed away Friday, March 16, 2016 as she was nearing her 98th birthday. Alice Brucker Schilberg died peacefully after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Glenn, and her daughter Margaret (Gayatri) Schilberg. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Schilberg of Philadelphia, PA, Janet Burt of Arlington, VA and granddaughters Christine Burt (Arlington), and Laura Burt (Charlottesville). She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and grand dogs. Alice was born in Akron, Ohio, graduated from Akron University and moved to Pittsburgh PA as a young wife and mother. The family resided in Mt. Lebanon where they were active members of Southminster Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at St. Clair Hospital every week for over 45 years. She loved everything about her life in Mt. Lebanon and travelled to Europe and around the U.S. She celebrated her 80th birthday with a balloon ride in Napa Valley. After 15 years as a widow she started a new chapter on her 85th birthday by selling the family home of 50 years and moving to a beloved condo in Arlington to be near her grandchildren. Always willing to learn something new, she learned to walk the family puppies and navigate the streets of Arlington, driving until she was 95. Alice attended the Little Falls Presbyterian Church, joined the church circle as well as Williamsburg Women's Association and found several groups of dedicated bridge players. She loved tracking stocks, going to antique shows, reading the newspaper and always carried a disposable camera. A memorial service will be held at Little Falls Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 3pm in the Treehouse (2nd floor). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Smile Train or a charity of your choosing.
