We have modern technology offerings, so your music selections and tribute video can be played to perfection. Need us to create a tribute video? We take care of it all.
Not only does the team at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home understand that losing a loved one is a difficult experience, we also know that every life is unique and every family is different. That's why we take time to ask questions. How did your loved one live their life? What did they love the most? What made them smile?
Let’s create a memorial as special as the life lived. We can find inspiration almost anywhere. Just start with a story. We'll take it from there.
Traditional and contemporary services
Whether you seek a simple cremation with a scattering in the Atlantic Ocean; a full traditional funeral service with a cemetery burial and a coffee-and-cake reception; or a creative outdoor event complete with a live band, favorite foods and personalized mementos, we can handle every detail of a service.
From traveling to tennis themed, backyard barbecue to black tie, cupcakes to crab cakes, we make sure that your wishes and the wishes of your loved one are fulfilled. Serving generations of Piedmont Triad families, we are the local experts at creating unique and memorable tributes.
Cremation in Greensboro
There are many options for cremation in Greensboro—and they're not all equal. We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our all-inclusive pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
If you're interested in cemetery placement, our sister cemetery, Guilford Memorial Park, is among the prettiest in the area, with 100 acres of magnolia trees, rolling hills and a sparkling lake. It offers cremation niches and other cremation cemetery choices.
And for those who wish for something more momentous, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. Or a Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

History
Henry Hanes, the Lineberry family and the related network of funeral homes and cemeteries have provided funeral, cemetery and cremation services in Guilford County and the surrounding Piedmont Triad metropolitan region since 1919.
In the early 1900s, Henry L. Hanes founded Hanes Funeral Home at the corner of West Sycamore and Greene streets. This was the first exclusive funeral home in North Carolina and the first in Greensboro to provide motorized ambulance and funeral equipment.
In 1922, the funeral home moved to the corner of West Market and South Eugene streets, establishing a modern chapel complete with air conditioning, instrumental organ and a private family room.
Sadly, Henry died unexpectedly in 1947. In 1955, the family asked Al Lineberry Sr. to purchase stock in the funeral home and the name changed to Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home. Lineberry led the funeral home as it became one of the largest providers in North Carolina.
Growth and expansion
Al expanded the business to three locations with cemeteries and crematories in Greensboro, New Bern and Eden, North Carolina. In 1968, our main location moved to North Elm Street.
He became a spokesman of funeral service and president of both the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association and National Selected Morticians. He later served in the North Carolina State House of Representatives for several terms.
Today, Al Lineberry Jr. continues on the path set by his father and Henry. He, along with his father and brother Scott, are the only Certified Funeral Service Practitioners in Guilford County. Al Jr. was also president of the International Order of the Golden Rule Funeral Directors.
Commitment to Greensboro
Since our founding more than 100 years ago, Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home has kept pace with the progress and development of Greensboro. We are proud to continue our time-honored traditions and commitment to quality funeral service, supporting our community and making Greensboro a great place to live for generations to come.
