Nécrologie de Thomas Wayne Greene
Thomas Wayne “Tommy” Greene, 77, of Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. Tommy served in the United States Army Reserve from 1965-1968 and the Virginia National Guard from 1968-1971. He retired from the Naval Weapons Station in 1997. After retirement, he worked closely with his son at Greene Lawns and Trees for 23 years. He was also a longtime active member of James River Baptist Church. In addition to working alongside his son, Tommy also enjoyed woodworking. His greatest joys, though, were spending time with family and serving his Lord and Savior with a humble heart. A devoted husband, father, and friend to many, Tommy was known by the words he did not speak. Quiet, kind, and generous, he believed in a hard day’s work and rarely missed an opportunity to help someone in need. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Hazel Greene; brothers Bruce Greene and Kenny Greene; and two Taylor great-grandbabies whom he met in Heaven. He will be cherished and missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Greene; daughter, Lynne Marie Taylor, and son-in-law, Richard Taylor, of Moulton, IA; son, Mike Greene, and daughter-in-law, Ginnie Greene, of Toano; grandchildren, SSgt Ethan Taylor, and his wife, Rachel Taylor of Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri; Ashley Taylor of Moulton, Iowa; and Hannah Greene and Aaron Greene of Toano; a great-granddaughter, Oaklee Taylor of Missouri; a special bonus daughter, Scarlett Mohr of Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at James River Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Immediate family will attend inside James River Baptist. Other family and friends may join through FM transmission in the church parking lot. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to James River Baptist Church Building Fund. Condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
