Shirley Mersereau Shipley – August 1, 1927 to October 12, 2022, 95 years of age.
She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Norman E. Shipley and her parents Llewelyn and Estelle Mersereau. She also lost two grandchildren, Todd and Laura Shipley.
She leaves a daughter, Christine Shipley Matter and her husband, David of Williamsburg, and two grandchildren, Brian Matter (Prescott, Arizona) and his wife, Andrea, and also John Matter (Honolulu, Hawaii), and his wife, Michiyo. She also leaves two sons, Steven Wayne Shipley (Potter, Nebraska) and a grandson, Eric Shipley, as well as Jeffrey Brian Shipley (Madison, Wisconsin) and his wife, Claudia and their daughter, Maggie (Aurora, Colorado) and husband, Zach, and their daughter Stella Rose den Daas, Shirley’s first great-granddaughter.
Life over the years was an active one, she loved her family and her home, book clubs, reading, being a member of Christ United Methodist Church and her church circle, as well as many bridge groups. Shirley was an avid golfer playing with the 18 hole and 9 hole Ford’s Colony golfers until age 91. She lived at Verena at The Reserve for the last 10 years, downsizing from Ford’s Colony. Shirley moved many different places during her years with Norm, and before that grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and spent summers in Appomattox and Gloucester, Virginia. Thousands of hours were spent doing volunteer work at Colonial Williamsburg and Sentara Regional Medical Center and prior to those many different non-profits.
