Nécrologie de Karl A. Rohr
Karl Rohr passed away on September 19, 2024 in Williamsburg, Virginia at the age of 77. He walked through life with gentle strength and unwavering faith. A graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in English, he embraced lifelong learning, becoming well-read and well-traveled with exceptional knowledge of world religions, poetry and music. There was nothing more Karl enjoyed than being a traveler and studying world religion. After 25 years of travel through India and Greece, he was baptized an Orthodox Christian on Mount Athos and received the name Charalambos. It was on Crete that he found inspiration and comfort among the Sisters of the Holy Stavropegic Monastery of Chrysopigi whose wisdom and kindness profoundly touched his heart. When in the States, he felt most at peace at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, where his spirit found a home amidst the prayers and community he cherished. Preceded in death by his parents, Karl E. Rohr and Martha Peterson Rohr, and is survived by his sister, Maxine Rohr Cunningham (Ken); his brother, Richard Rohr (Linda). He is also survived by his nieces, Amy Ganderson and Deborah Zeishner; his nephew, Michael Cunningham, and countless friends around the globe. A service will be held on October 14, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4900 Mooretown Road, Williamsburg. An inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, New York alongside his parents. Karl found beauty in life's simple moments and encouraged us all to do the same. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance (Colorectalcancer.org). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
