John William Watkins

John W. Watkins, 73, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Jacobs and stepfather, Frank Jacobs, and by his father, William C. Watkins and stepmother, Betty Watkins. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his daughter, Meaghan Perger and husband, Joe of Gloucester; his sons, Jason Watkins and wife, Heidi of Toano, Todd Watkins and wife, Beckie of St. Louis, MO, and Eric Watkins of Richmond. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Watkins and wife, Blanche of Williamsburg; his sisters, Karen Watkins of Jarreau, LA, Kathy Rivers of Wichita, KA, and Kim Carr and husband, David of Baton Rouge, LA; and his grandchildren, Lily Perger, Charlie Perger, Bailey Watkins, Brody Watkins and Ryan Watkins. John retired from Anheuser Busch where he worked for many years. Retirement left him to do some volunteer jobs, which he really enjoyed. His favorite job, however, was watching the Washington Redskins, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Rome Braves. That man really enjoyed the ball games! The family will receive friends on Friday, March 31 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Nelsen Funeral home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The City of Williamsburg Fire Department, 440 N Boundary St, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
