Lt. Col. James “Jim” A. Cunningham (Ret), 76, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2021 in Williamsburg, VA. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 8, 1945 to John K. and Alma G. Cunningham.
Jim attended Grove City College where he was a member of ROTC. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Air Force. He served for twenty-one years in contracting, procurement and logistics management, was a member of the IG team and had command positions in Pittsburgh, PA and in the UK. He received his Master's degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Jim held positions with Texas Instruments and Raytheon in supply chain management. He retired from that career in 2007 to focus on family, community service, golf, and travel.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his high school sweetheart, best friend and wife of 55 years, Lois; his daughter, Laura Evans (Mike); his son Carl (Jera); and four cherished grandchildren, Jackson, Caleb, Ainsley and Knox.
Jim was a lifelong traveler and never turned down an opportunity for adventure. He was an avid golfer and most recently was a member of the Colonial Heritage Men's Golf Association. He was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church and his service to his Lord, his family and his country was unwavering.
He added meaning to our lives and every life he touched. He was a humble mentor, a comforter, and a constant encourager. His greatest joy was watching the development of his children and his grandchildren, with his beloved wife by his side.
A service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg. Interment will be private.
