Carol Ann Workman, 71, of Williamsburg, Virginia, died June 12, 2018 at Riverside Doctor’s Hospital. Born on December 29, 1946, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Amos (Ben) Couture and Mary (Myers) Couture also of Attleboro, Massachusetts. A resident of Williamsburg since her retirement in 2006, she enjoyed her memberships in the Colonial Heritage Gardening Club; Travel Club; and History Club. She also found it very rewarding to be involved with the St. Olaf’s Catholic Church’s Respect Life Ministry; the From His Hands hot meals program; and her work at the church’s Food Pantry, as well as her variety of volunteer tasks as a member of the St. Olaf’s Women’s Club. Prior to retirement, Carol was employed by the U.S. Department of State. She originally joined the Department of State Foreign Service in 1975 to exercise her love of travel and her desire to be of service to her country. From 1975 through 1977, she was assigned to the American Embassy in Paris. During that period, she married her husband who also worked at the State Department. Following that assignment, they transferred to Belgrade, Yugoslavia from 1977 through 1979. Upon completion of that assignment, the two were transferred back to Washington DC. Following the birth of their first child, she transferred from the Foreign Service to the State Department Civil Service. While working in Washington, she worked about 10 years in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, with the remaining time spent supporting Department of State Contracting for the Bureau of Information Resource Management and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Clarence E. Workman, Jr.; son, Jeffery Workman and wife, Beth and granddaughter, Reese, of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter, Victoria (Workman) Hickland and husband, Josh, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and son, Bradley Workman. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg, Virginia on Tuesday, June 19 at 11:00AM. Immediately following the Mass the family will receive friends at a reception at the Colonial Heritage Club House at 12:00PM. Interment will be at a future date at the National Cemetery at Quantico, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, Virginia 23188.
