Dorothy Stroop Roller, 91, a lifelong resident of Weyers Cave, passed away peacefully at her home on October 24th, 2017. She was born May 11, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Willie M. and Maggie Ellen (Good) Stroop and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Dot graduated from Madison College with a degree in Home Economics. She taught at Spottswood High School in Augusta County. In 1948 she married O. Beverley Roller and returned to live in the Weyers Cave Community where she dedicated her life in support of her family. As a charter member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Dot was a leader in the United Methodist Women and served on numerous committees in the church. In addition, she shared her love for music by directing children’s choirs and church pageants for many years. Dot was a member of the Weyers Cave Women’s Club and the local P.T.A. Her greatest devotion was to her husband, Bev, and her family. She was an excellent cook and a master seamstress who will be remembered for constructing many beautiful garments, the most notable being wedding gowns for her daughters and several nieces. As part of her sewing legacy, she created and constructed heirloom quilts for her children, her nine grandchildren, and her eight great- grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her son Randy Roller and wife Annie; two daughters, Becky R. Shreckhise and husband Jim; and Jackie R. Dunsmore and husband Mark. Dot deeply loved her nine grandchildren and their respective spouses: Jason Roller (Kendra), Jon Roller (Emily), Kelly Roller Jones (Brendan), Brandon Shreckhise (Jennifer), Maggie Shreckhise Wilkins (Chad), Trent Shreckhise (Kelsey), Bradley Dunsmore (Jordan), Katie Dunsmore Gaines (Daniel), and Carrie Dunsmore. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Addison and Everly Roller, Keelan and Sallie Ann Jones, Wyatt and Hudson Dunsmore, Emmett Shreckhise, and Vivian Wilkins. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 29 at 3 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church in Weyers Cave with a reception following the service. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Dot’s residence on Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th from 7 to 9 in the evening. Memorial contributions in Dot’s honor may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 3700 Lee Highway, Weyers Cave VA.
