Betty Celene (Coffey) Matheny, 89, of Crimora passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at Augusta Health. Born January 31, 1924 in Love, she was the son of the late Alvin and Fannie (DeMasters) Coffey. Mrs. Matheny was a faithful member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro. She was a graduate of Fishersville High School. Betty was employed by General Electric where she made relays for space shuttles and after 32 years of service she retired. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. When time permitted, she enjoyed gardening, camping, stitching and bowling with her many friends associated with the Women’s Bowling Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband, Charles Matheny on March 9, 1999; favorite son-in-law, Jerry W. Dooms; son-in-law, Larry Meyerhoeffer; brother, Oakley Coffey; sisters-in-law, Helen Coffey and Doris Coffey. Survivors include her loving children, Gloria Jean “Jeannie” Dooms of Waynesboro and Joyce Meyerhoeffer of Crimora; brother, Malcome Coffey of Fishersville; grandchildren, Richard Dooms and wife, Debbie of Waynesboro, Kevin Dooms and wife, Teresa of Colorado, Stoney Meyerhoeffer and wife, Linda and Clancy Meyerhoeffer all of St. Louis, MO and Katy Spradlin of Waynesboro; great-grandchildren, Shasta Dooms, Brady and Cameron Meyerhoeffer and Renee and Ryan Dooms; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Smyrna Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wray Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Richard Dooms, Clancy Meyerhoeffer, Anthony Spradlin, Larry Davis, Bruce Coffey and Ronnie Sweeny. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W.
