Richard R. Paradis passed away on September 14, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 12, 1947 to the late Adelard and Ada Paradis in New Bedford, Mass. After graduating from UMASS Dartmouth in 1969, Richard worked for the Department of the Navy, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) as an Electrical Engineer and Criteria Manager. He retired in October 2002 after 36 years of Federal Service. He went on to work in the private sector as Senior Engineer and Manager of Federal Buildings Program for Steven Winter Associates. He continued on to become the Director for Whole Building Design Guide with the National Institute of Building Sciences in Washington DC. Richard was also an Independent Consultant, his services included reverse energy auction, demand response and energy intelligence software, along with acoustics, noise control, facility security, high performance buildings, resilience, sustainability, facilitator, speaker/presenter at meetings and conferences. Richard was a senior member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. and a member of The Institute of Noise Control Engineering. Richard was a strong, kind, fun, loving and supportive husband and father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. He and his wife were foster parents for the Virginia Beach Department of Social Services. He was a passionate New England sports fan and found joy in coaching youth sports. He also volunteered for the Special Olympics, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife in their motorhome and finally settled between NC and FL. Richard is predeceased by his parents and his daughter Irene Bryant. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dianne A. Paradis; daughter, Lisa Paradis Cuellar; sons, Richard Paradis Jr., Michael Paradis and Randy Paradis; and 11 grandchildren. A visitation for Richard will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A funeral mass will occur Monday, September 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 1968 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456. Richard will be laid to rest in Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
