James “Jim” Arthur Swanick, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in Virginia Beach. Jim was born in New York City, NY to the late Arthur and Alice Swanick. He was predeceased by his daughter Judy Swanick as well as two siblings. Jim retired after 23 years of exemplary service from the US Navy as an Operations Specialist Chief Petty Officer. Jim was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), where he most recently served as President, and the Knights of Columbus where he held multiple positions of honor. Jim was a board member of KOVAR, a Knights of Columbus charity. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends, golfing and boating. He is cherished in memory by his wife of 57 years Jean Swanick; daughter Jeanne Lauer; grandchildren Connor Lauer and Moira Kelly Lauer; brother Dennis Swanick and wife Iris; and nephew Stephen Swanick. He will be sorely missed by brothers-in-law Jim Ward (Pam) and John Ward (Olga), SIL Julia Ward as well as a host of other family members and friends. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 PM Monday, March 14, 2022 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church with burial immediately following at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KOVAR and the Rett Syndrome Foundation. Condolences may also be offered to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
