Carole Joan Baxter Daugherty

Carole Baxter Daugherty, life long resident of Vigo County, passed away on August 9, 2019 in Meadows Manor North, Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born on April 2, 1935 to Ralph G. and Pauline M. (Shadley) Baxter. Following graduation from Otter Creek High School in 1953 she married James R. Daugherty. They were married for 41 years until his death in 1994. The couple had three children. Carole was known for her joyful laugh, gregarious personality, and her tea parties. She was a homemaker, realtor, a graduate of GRI, and long term survivor of cancer. As an active member of the community, she was a member of North Terre Haute Christian Church, a member for over 50 years of Temple #29, Daughter’s of the Nile in which she served as Queen. She was president of Vigo County Extension Homemaker’s, a member of Red Hats, and an active member of several cancer support organizations. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; son, Ralph Daugherty; sister, Sandra Mershon and brother Donald William Baxter. She is survived by daughters Arlene Jones (Hal) of Indian Trail, NC and Donna Gárate Daugherty (John) of the Galapagos Islands; brothers-in-law Frank Mershon of West Terre Haute and Dr. Forest Daugherty (Marsha) of Columbus, IN; grandchildren Kristina Dron Thomson, Karen Newby (Christopher), and Donovan Gárate Daugherty; great-grandchildren Madyn Dron, Vaughn Newby, and Harper Newby; several nieces and nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Jeremy Lamb officiating. Carole will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
