Clifton James Fisher Sr.

Clifton James Fisher, Sr., 87, of Ruther Glen passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born in Washington DC, he had retired from Fort Belvoir in the printing division after 33 years. He was predeceased in death by his wife of almost 44 years, Nellie Fisher and son-in-law, Rob Van Arsdale. Clifton and Nellie had four children together, Phyllis Boggs (Jeff), Clifton Fisher, Jr. (Sally), Ronnie Fisher (Melissa) and Diana Van Arsdale. He is survived by his wife, Christina Fisher; sister, Ann Gregory; brother, Leonard Higbee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Butch and Brenda Brewer; five grandchildren, Steven Naylor, Jr., Jeff Boggs, III, Clara Boggs, R J Fisher, and Tommy Fisher; three great grandchildren, Layla Fisher, Faith Fisher, and Trey Fisher; and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of Wright’s Chapel UMC and had been a very active member in Lake Caroline for many years. He loved Christmas and several years ago, he and his wife, Christina made statues of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus to be displayed at the front entrance of the lake. Those statues can still be seen during Christmas time and it is wonderful to see little children having photos taken with them. Additionally, at a community High Tea Luncheon at the lake, he and two other friends were the dancing waiters! These are just a few things he was involved in for the lake. As a young man, he loved coaching his sons in baseball and football and was a “beloved” father by many. He never missed a game either as a coach or a spectator. His children could always count on him (and Nellie) to be on the sidelines or in the stands cheering them on. To sum up Clifton, here is a beautiful testimonial written on Facebook from Vintage Dumfries: “Sorry to share the news that one of Dumfries’ all-time favorite Dads has passed, Cliff Fisher, Sr. Many people will remember him, and his wife Nellie, who raised one of the best bunch of kids in Dumfries. Mr. Fisher was a role model for many youngsters in Town and spent countless hours on the ballfield at Dumfries Elementary back when everyone played in the Dumfries Little League. The Fishers were one of those Main Street families (who lived where the Mayor’s barbecue business is now) that were respected and very well-liked by the entire community. Condolences to the family.” A visitation for Clifton will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. A graveside will occur Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Stafford Memorial Park, 154 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions in Clifton’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association and The American Diabetes Association. A memorial service will be held at Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church at a later date.
