Joseph (Joe, Joey) Patrick Byrnes, 59, - dedicated husband, father, grandfather (Boppa), son, brother, and friend passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, as the result of an accident. Joe was born to Bill and Dorothy Byrnes in Buffalo, NY on September 26, 1964. He graduated from South Park High School in 1982 and joined the Navy. Following graduation from Basic Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, he was stationed at Naval Hospital Groton, CT where he met Linda. His Navy career took him to Field Medical Service School and 2nd battalion, 2nd Marines (2/2), Camp Lejeune, NC where he was known as “Doc Hoss.” Linda and Joe were married in April 1985 and welcomed their daughter Heather in 1986. Joe supported Linda in her Naval career and was the glue that held the family together throughout military moves both CONUS and OCONUS. He had the opportunity to try a variety of occupations, along the way, the most exciting was that of a radio station DJ at KUAM on Guam. Linda, Joe, and Heather moved to Virginia in 1999. Joe completed his bachelor’s degree in administration/management at Colorado Technical University and went on to receive his MBA (Project Management) from Walden University. He served as Director for Operations at Daubers, Inc. for 14 years until the sale of the company. Mostly recently he was owner and agent of BIA LLC. Joe was the Commander of VFW Post 7327 in Springfield, VA where he sought to serve and support veterans in need for over 10 years. He was also an officer with American Legion Post 176 in Springfield, VA. Through the years, Joe enjoyed playing golf, good cigars with friends, traveling with Linda, and spending time with his family, in particular his grandchildren. This year he made lasting memories with the grands during a spring break visit to Disney World and then a summer trip to Kitty Hawk, NC. Joe is survived by his wife, Linda; their daughter, Heather; son-in-law, Patrick (Tommy) Garritty; four grandchildren, Cassidy, Adaline, Savannah, and Juliette; his father, William; his brothers Billy, David, Michael and sister Patti; and his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy, sister Tamme and brother Scott. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, Virginia. Inurnment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Springfield VFW Post 7327, 5417 Backlick Road #E, Springfield, VA 22151 or American Legion Post 176, 6520 Amherst Avenue, Springfield, VA 22150.
