Brian Michael Powell

Mr. Brian Michael Powell, age 56, of Falls Church, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Virginia Hospital Center. Brian was born November 12, 1958 in Iowa to the late Charles Junior and Mary Ann (Umthun) Powell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Lynn, and a brother Kevin Powell. Brian served in the U.S. Navy as a GSMI Gas Turbine Technician from 1977 through 1988. From 1995 through 2009 he was an entrepreneur, and he worked with the Fairfax County Public School system from 2011 through 2013. Brian is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Dawn Powell, and son Jared Powell; brothers Chuck Powell, Richard Powell, and Joe Powell of Eagle Grove, IA; sister Ann Shriver and husband Henry; sisters-in-law Michelle Powell of MN and Marcy Powell of Davenport, IA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. Friends and family are asked to meet at the Administration building no later than 8:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Brian’s name to the American Cancer Society.
