Hazel Beatrice Ayers Reynolds, aged 91, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 at her home in Roanoke, Va. She was born December 13, 1921 to the late John Wesley Ayers and Laura Letitia Stanley Ayers of Carroll County, VA. She previously resided in Martinsville, VA and was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Roscoe Reynolds. In addition, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence, Wesley, Lawrence, and Earnest Ayers and her sisters, Clara Mayberry, Florence and May Ayers. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, Hazel enjoyed cooking, music, quilting and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at The Park Oak Grove Retirement Community. Hazel had an unwavering faith in God and over the years took joy in serving others and being active in her church. She was a vocalist in her church choir and was a talented musician who played several stringed instruments including the guitar, banjo, mandolin and dulcimer. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy O’Shaughnessy and husband Terry of Roanoke. She is also survived by her grandsons, Jeremy Blackstock and wife, Patti and Jason Blackstock and wife, Jennifer of Charleston, SC. Hazel’s greatest joy was spending time with her seven great granddaughters, Kendra, Skylar, Alexandra, Langdon Grace, Kayleigh, Aimee Beth, and Karrington Blackstock. She is also survived by a close, special niece, Sue Rector of Suwanee, GA and several other nieces and nephews and long time friends, including special friends, Tippy Rogers and Robert Edwards. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held Tuesday, August 20 at 2 PM at Highland Baptist Church in Ridgeway, VA. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, VA. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from family and friends. A heartfelt thanks is given to the staff of The Park Oak Grove and especially to the wonderful nursing staff who provided her with tender, loving care and made possible her wish to live her final days in her beloved home. The family also thanks Dr. William Ball and Good Samaritan Hospice for the wonderful care given by Amy Booth and Mary Law.Memorials may be made in Hazel’s name to The V. T.
