VALENTINE, Thomas “Tommy, TV, T-Rex and Hambone” Greer, 64, of Goochland, VA went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2012 after a 2 ½ year battle with mesothelioma lung cancer. A Richmond boy through and through, he was born and passed away at Retreat Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father Edgar “Tommy” Greer Valentine and his mother Jean Mills Davis. Tommy is survived by his devoted wife and soul mate of 31 years, Patricia (Patsy) Valentine; his little sister, Lisa Valentine White (Michael) Midlothian, VA , their daughter, Heather (Jared) and son, Jason (Rachel); brother, Craig Valentine (Krin) Colorado Springs, CO , their daughter, Laura Beth; brother Scott Valentine (Martha) Knoxville, TN, their son Stephen and five great-nephews and nieces. Tommy grew up in Richmond and Virginia Beach. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in 1966 where he received a football scholarship to Frederick Military Academy and Virginia Tech, where he graduated in 1971. A knee injury in his sophomore year was the end of football but the beginning of his love for Rugby. Tommy helped start Virginia Tech’s first Rugby Team and continued playing for many years with the Richmond Rugby Club. Tommy attended law school in Chicago and California, read law in VA and passed the VA Bar in September 1978. He worked at various jobs over the years, but was happiest working for himself practicing criminal law and selling used cars. A lover of the beach since childhood, he and his wife Patsy took winter vacations in Florida and summered at VA Beach eating seafood, exercising, riding bikes and soaking up the sun. Those of you who knew Tommy know that he was a free spirit and a believer in “Love and Forgive, Laugh and Live”. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, where a service will be held Thursday, May 17 at 11:00 am. Burial will be private at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery on Patterson Avenue.
