Phoebe Koon-Kwan Chan

Chan, Phoebe K., age 32, of Glen Allen, Virginia, passed away on July 13, 2020. Phoebe was born on February 11, 1988 in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Aileen Chan and Hubert Chan; sister of Clara Chan and Wilbert Chan. Phoebe moved to Glen Allen, VA with her family in 5th grade. She was kind, considerate, intelligent, liked to help others, and her work ethic was unparalleled by any other. She was involved in many extra curricular activities especially the Technology Student Association(TSA) which was a huge part of her life from Moody Middle School (International Baccalaureate) to Maggie L. Walker Governor's School. As a competitor, Phoebe won many awards including a 3rd place National trophy and served on the Executive Council twice as the State Historian and South Central Regional President. She continued to be involved with TSA after high school and would later be a TSA coordinator and judge competitions in her college years and beyond. Other extra curricular activities Phoebe participated in high school include Robotics, Model United Nations, and played Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer and field hockey for the Governor's school. Phoebe graduated high school in three years with an Advanced High School Diploma from Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies in May 2005. After graduating high school, Phoebe was awarded the President's Leadership Program Scholarship and continued her education at Christopher Newport University. At CNU, she was part of the president's leadership program, biology club, school service organizations and campus activity board. Phoebe held numerous offices in the aforementioned clubs. One of Phoebe's best qualities was her willingness to volunteer her time to help others. Starting from middle school at age 11, she volunteered over 200 hours at the local library. Phoebe loved volunteering there so much that this led to her working part time at the library while in high school. She also volunteered at elementary schools, the American Red Cross, Bay Days Volunteer, Children's Emergency Fund and many more. Phoebe loved to travel, explore new places, try new food, and was a self-proclaimed avid food photographer. She took advantage of the study abroad scholarship programs to study in Shanghai and Morocco in her college years to explore other cultures and try different food. She also traveled with her family to many countries in Asia and Europe. Phoebe graduated a semester early with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, with Magna Cum Laude, in December 2008. After college, Phoebe worked at Vector Marketing as a Personal Recruiting Assistant and worked her way to the Divisional Recruiting Manager position. Phoebe then worked at Dave and Busters where she climbed her way up and worked over five different job positions to become a manager. Phoebe made many great friends and co-workers at both jobs. In Phoebe's free time, she enjoyed playing mahjong, video games, socializing with friends, listening to music, and watching television shows, especially Sailor Moon. Phoebe was an incredible daughter, sister, and friend. Her sense of humor was bar none. She was a loyal and kind individual that always cared for others before herself. Phoebe will always be remembered for her smile, kindness, willingness to help others, and strong work ethic. Phoebe accomplished so much in her short life and was deeply loved by her family and friends along her life journey. Phoebe will be missed and live on in our hearts.
