Martha Campbell Dabney (Pat) 98, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend died on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. Mrs. Dabney was the widow of H. Howard Dabney and the daughter of the late Ellie Cocke Campbell and Dr. Hawes Campbell. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Denton (Buddy) of Hampton, Martha Long (George) of King George and Carolyn Davis (Bobby) of Courtland, one brother, Eugene “Dick” Campbell of King William and six grandchildren, Allen and David Denton, Kevin and Martha Long, and Brad and Amy Davis and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two sisters and brother, Anne Scott Jacobs, Ellie Campbell, and Dr. Hawes Campbell, Jr.. Mrs. Dabney was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and played the piano for the 4th grade Sunday School Class. After graduating from Harrisonburg State Teachers' College (JMU) in 1935, she taught home economics for many years retiring from Henrico County Schools. Mrs. Dabney enjoyed golf, bridge and the Tuckahoe YMCA. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 at Woody's Funeral Home on Parham Road. A graveside service will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park. A service celebrating her life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Forest Avenue Monday, at 1:00 p.m.. with a reception following at the church. Mrs Dabney will be remembered for her strong Christian beliefs, her kindness and her generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave., Richmond, VA 23229 or McKendree United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 254, Manquin, Virginia 23106.
