Nécrologie de Craig Alfred Nelson
Craig Alfred Nelson Richmond, Virginia - Craig Alfred Nelson, 66, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family as he was approaching his 16-year lung transplant anniversary later this month. As the first son of Arthur Edward Nelson and Janet Nelson Davenport, Craig will also be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, as well as a great friend to many. Craig is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Alison Armstrong Nelson; children, Stephanie Janet Nelson, Charles Alfred Nelson (Joanna), Sarah “Sally" Nelson Lucas (Haines), and Emily Nelson Floyd (Blake); and five grandchildren, Lillian, Caleb and Patrick Nelson, Haines Lucas, Jr., and Maisie Floyd, who affectionately called him "Nelly". He also leaves behind his sister, Karen Nelson Harriman (Bob); brother, Mark Edward Nelson; sister-in-law, Hillary Armstrong Weber; brother-in-law, Eric Armstrong; nieces and nephews, Krista Harriman Wren (Garrett), Katherine Weber, Kylie Nelson, Carl Weber (Elisabeth), Stephen Weber, Cameron Armstrong, and Paul Armstrong; and many great-nieces and nephews as well as loving extended family. Craig was a graduate of McLean High School and James Madison University. His lifelong career was in technology, including 15 years with Oracle Corporation. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outside, taking walks, and loved all sports, especially golf. Craig was an active member of River Road Presbyterian Church. Above all, Craig cherished his role as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His love, guidance, and unwavering support were a source of strength and comfort to those closest to him, leaving a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness. Craig exuded courage, confidence, and enthusiasm with an uncanny ability to look at the glass “half full”. His presence enriched the lives of those around him, and an indelible mark will be left on the hearts of many. In lieu of flowers or donations, take a moment to hug your loved ones. Call an old friend. Take a walk in the woods. Catch a falling leaf. Admire the birds. Watch a sunrise or sunset. As Alice Morse Earle once wrote, “Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present.” To remember Craig, a Celebration of Life will be held in the new year. Online condolences and fond memories of Craig may be offered to the family on the Woody Funeral Home - Parham website.
