Cary “KK” David Purdy, 81, passed away with his family by his side in Virginia Beach to be with his Lord and Savior. KK was born in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia to the late Edward and Lucille Purdy. He is also predeceased by his brother, Bobby Purdy and his wife, Rita.
KK was a Paratrooper for the US Army. Later, he worked for the Civil Service as a pipe fitter and then Old Dominion University as a maintenance tech. When he wasn’t working he loved going to the Flea Market, catching auctions, and spending time at Hardee’s every morning drinking coffee with his friends. He was especially fond of his baby girl, Kim and his grandchildren.
A very selfless person, he spent many years taking care of his wife, Shirley. He is cherished in memory by Shirley; daughters Judy Purdy Ledford (Ronald) and Kim Purdy Shakallis (Ricky); stepchildren, John Slate, Gail Lee and Brenda Slate; two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Savannah; sister, Joyce and a host of other significant family members and friends.
A visitation for KK will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia 23502. A graveside service will occur Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St., Norfolk, Virginia 23505, where US Army honors will be rendered.
