William “Bill” Wallace, 92, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at his home. Bill was born in Evansville, Indiana to Etta and Luther Wallace on February 11, 1931.
Bill retired from S.I.G.E. & CO Warrick Power Station after 25 years and from Big Rivers Reid/Green Station after 13 years. He was safety and training coordinator for the Reid Station. He was very active in both the community and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Bill was recipient of the Simon Brute Award, which is the highest award of the Catholic Church to a lay member. In 2000, Bill and Margaret started Mother Teresa’s Treasures and served on the Board of Directors for the “Mother Teresa” Thrift shop. He was a minister of communion, sacristan, and Chairman of the Volunteer Committee, a member of the Parish Council, having served two terms as President of the Council. He was treasurer of the St. John’s Men’s club for 13 years. Bill coached Little League baseball for eight years and helped organize and coach Babe Ruth ball four years. He was also President of the Castle Athletic Booster Club for six years. Bill was “Santa Claus” in the Evansville/Newburgh area for 23 years. He wrote and published “Santa’s Magic Key”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 38 years, Edythe Lehmann Wallace; second wife of 17 years, Margaret Stephenson Wallace; eldest son, Jeffrey Wallace; and brother, Richard Wallace.
Bill is survived by his children, Teri Duncan (Louis) and Tracy Wallace (Rhonda); step-children, John Stephenson (Janice), Fred Stephenson (Deb), Mary Ann Smith (John), Rita Reddy (Rob), Rob Stephenson (Dana), and Margaret Scott (Danny); 7 grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh, with final resting place at St. John’s Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the William and Margaret Wallace Endowment Fund at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, Newburgh, IN 47630 in lieu of flowers.
