AUX SOINS DE
Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel
James “Jim” R. Harmon, 86, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 8, 2024. Jim and his wife of 56 years, Carolyn (Tepool) Harmon, have resided in Newburgh, Indiana for the past 46 years. Jim was born on July 11, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana to Mary Helen Skinner. He was the nephew of Green and Naomi Benthall.
Jim graduated from Bosse High School in 1959. He went on to serve in the Army and the Air Force Reserves. He graduated from the University of Evansville in 1971 with a degree in business. Upon graduation, he worked at Benthall Brothers and Wolverine Aluminum before starting his own company, Harmco Sales Rep Agency. Jim enjoyed coaching his 3 kids in sports, embarking on numerous family vacations, and maybe playing a little golf here and there. Upon retirement, Jim could be found on the golf course on every day that ended in “y” and boasted that he shot his age when he was 69. He enjoyed meeting with his life-long friends every week and met new friends on and off the golf course. Though he loved cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, nothing compared to his love of rooting for his grandkids in everything they did. He always marked his calendar well in advance for drives to school, sporting events, and school ceremonies. His three grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Jim was known for having something to joke about with nearly everyone he met. You knew it was about to be funny when his eyes squinted shut as he was laughing. He was always up for going out to dinner, especially when it was followed by a sweet treat.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Helen Skinner; aunt and uncle, Green & Naomi Benthall; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Agnes Ann and Wayne Williams; sister-in-law, Peggy Tepool; brother-in-law, Joe Tepool; nephews, Kent Tepool and David Spaetti; and several near and dear friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Tepool) Harmon; children, Stacie Harmon, Chad (Lori) Harmon, and Sheri (Matt) Quinn; grandchildren, Daelyn, Brady, and Aleyna Quinn; sister-in-law, Ann Tepool; and brother-in-law, Richard Tepool.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 Old State Road 261, Newburgh IN, officiated by Chaplain Mike Fields, with burial in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery with full military rites conducted by American Legion Kapperman Post 44.
