Alexander William Homes, 81, of Newburgh, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born June 22, 1943 in Cleveland, OH. to the late Samuel and Jean(Barr) Holmes. He was an Army veteran who served in Germany from 1962 to 1965, and was an Honor Flight recipient. Alexander worked with L & N Railroad for 38 years as a brakeman and conductor. He enjoyed fly fishing and was a member of Ohio Valley Fly Rod Club where he served as secretary for many years. He also enjoyed bird hunting and watching Cardinal’s baseball. Alexander was preceded in death by his first wife, Lydia Holmes; son, Rick Johnson; sister, Carolyn Stevenson and sister-in-law, Alice Holmes. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jane Holmes; sons, Patrick Holmes (Anna) of Bloomington, IN, Nick Holmes of Duluth, MN and Micah Johnson of Evansville; daughter, Beth Neyhouse (Mike) of Newburgh; grandchildren, Rick Johnson, Lacey Wagon, Mat Johnson, Nicholas Holmes, Zachary Elliott, Brooke Garrison, Zelda Holmes and Alexander Joseph Holmes; nine great grandchildren; step children, Jeff Doughty (Linh), Jay Doughty (Tara) and Joel Doughty; step grandchildren, Nicole Tenbarge, Jason Doughty, Braden Buss, Jordan Brown and Caitlin Rich; eight step great grandchildren; brother, John Holmes; daughter-in-law, Tina Johnson; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Kapperman Post #44 will perform military rites. Family and friends may visit Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Valley Fly Rod Club or Honor Flights of Southern Indiana.
