Pauline Giles Smith

Pauline Giles Smith, 84, joined our dad in heaven February 21, 2023. Her support from family and friends got her thru her last days. She went to sleep in peace to not struggle breathing anymore. Pauline was born to the late Zack and Louvina Giles, a farmer and homemaker, Adair County, Ky. The oldest daughter of eight, Junior the oldest brother lived only one day Dec 21, 1940), the other siblings are, Gordon(Elaine)Giles, Shirley (JF deceased April 1, 1994) Lockard, Linda(Jimmy)Scott, Barbara(Jeff)Burton, Janet deceased Dec 21, 2020 (Raymond deceased Oct 8, 2021) Wood, Jerry(Janie)Giles. She attended grade school at Pellyton, Ky., the Knifley high school and Adair County High School. Pauline majored in General Business and Advanced Bookkeeping. She took a typing course among others. Graduated through American School of Correspondence in Chicago, Illinois. Pauline was blessed with a loving family. She married a young minister from Wisemantown, Ky., Otis G. Smith, Sr., December 7, 1956, in New Albany, Indiana. She gave Otis (deceased November 23, 2018) four children and he provided patience, discipline and love. She taught the children how to cook , sew and she played piano by ear. Together the family went to church and took family trips to see the grandparents Giles on the farm near Knifley, Ky. Pauline loved to visit the farm showing the children her younger years of the farm life style. Working in the tobacco fields, milking the cows, gardening and fishing in the pond. Pauline was an Avon Beauty Representative and took pride in her appearance. Her favorite color was pastel pink. She liked violet flowers and plants along with yellow and red roses. Survived by her children, O. Glendon (Amy) Smith, Diana (John) Jones, Pamela Keene, Donald (Diane) Smith; grandchildren, Sara (David) Bowman, Abigail ( Robert) Costello, Melanie(Matthew) Murphy, Adam Jones, Elisabeth (Nathan) Love, Rebekah (Brennan) Banet, Naomi Jones, Lydia (Robert) Keeton, Emily (Zach) Creek, Olivia Keene, Andrea Smith; and great grandmother of 19. A visitation for Pauline will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A visitation will occur Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 11:30 AM, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Pauline will be laid to rest in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
