Edward A. Schaefer Sr.

Edward A. Schaefer, Sr, age 95, of Floyd Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the The Villages of Historic Silvercrest, in New Albany, Indiana. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Rita (Knable) Schaefer; three sisters, Catherine Libs, Bernadine Liggett and Frances Talbott. He is survived by his five children. Edward (Rusty) Schaefer (Nancy), Mark Schaefer (Linda), Dwight Schaefer (Julie), Susan Kerber (Steve) and Greg Schaefer (Janna) and 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was a life long resident of Floyd County, except for the time he served in the United States Marine Corps, in the Pacific, during the Second World War. He was part owner of Bridge Liquors and the KSK Corporation. Ed worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad until his retirement in 1984. Ed loved to hunt and fish and do carpentry. He was also an artist who enjoyed photography. He loved traveling in the United States and had visited all but two of the states during his lifetime. Special thanks are extended to his care giver of many months, Marla White, Betty Brooks, Janet Harmon and to Diane and Elaine at Silvercrest, for their loving care. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all those who loved him. Calling hours will be at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, from 3-8 pm on Friday, January 3, 2020. A Catholic Mass will be held at 10:00 am, at Saint Mary’s of the Knobs Catholic Church-Chapel, on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s of the Knobs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
