Jay Douglas Carter, age 80, of Nashville, IN passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Brown County Health and Living Community. Born October 12, 1942 in Anderson, Indiana, he was the son of James Vernon and Virginia M. (Williams) Carter. Jay graduated from Anderson Highland High School and Indiana University. He was an avid entrepreneur who owned many businesses over the years: Artists Colony Inn, Artists Drive Apartments, Jay and Ellen Carter Antiques, First Insurance Group, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Sunshine Inn. His favorite organizations included Brown County Rotary Club, Indiana Heritage Art, Brown County Art Guild, Brown County Art Gallery, and Indiana Independent Insurance. He enjoyed attending Indiana University sporting events, collecting art and antiques, and vacationing in Maine and Florida.
Jay is survived by his loving wife, Ellen (Rigley) Carter, of Nashville; two daughters, Jessica (Brad Waugh) Carter, of Muncie, Indiana and Hannah (Rafael) Heard, of Indianapolis and four grandchildren, Bailey, Brennen, Steven, and Jayden.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Susan Carter.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date to be held at the Brown County Art Guild.
Memorial contributions in Jay's memory can be given to the Brown County Art Guild, the Brown County Community Foundation for the Carter Fund for the Arts, Humanities and Education, or to the Brown County Rotary Club.
