Joseph H. Johnson

Joseph H. Johnson, 84, Muncie, passed away Thursday morning, July 11, 2024, at his home. He was born Friday, February 23, 1940, in Muncie, the son of Joseph S. and Maribel Johnson and attended Burris High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967. Joe was a City of Muncie firefighter for over twenty-nine years. He became a member of the Muncie First Baptist church when he was twelve years old. Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Shirley (Rolland) Johnson; son, Timothy Johnson, Austin, Texas; daughter, Christina (husband, Ryan) Smith, Marion, Indiana; two grandchildren, Logan Smith, Kokomo, Indiana, and Alexis (Craig) Thirey, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two great grandsons, Azariah and Micaiah; cousin, Marty (Marvin) Stephens, Muncie, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph S. and Maribel Johnson. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Jonathan Balmer officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Per family wishes, there will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions in honor of Joe may be sent to a charity of donor’s choice.
