Nécrologie de Emma Rose Stock
Emma Stock, 96, of Richmond, passed away peacefully in her home after visits from her sons and talking about the Scrabble victory from the night before and her desire to start a new knitting project. She is reunited with her husband of 65 years, Roland Noel Stock who preceded her in death in 2014. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to carry on her legacy of faith, family and strength. Her five children are Kathleen Slating (Richard), Mark Stock (Carol), Laurene Johnson (James), Michael Stock (Cindy) and Carolyn Blaine (Jon). She had nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews – she loved them all so much. Family and faith were so important to Emma. She was born and raised Emma Rose Vida in the Detroit metro area of Michigan. She met Roland at Cass Technical High School. They were married on June 25, 1949, and began their family the following year. During their marriage, job transfers with Roland’s company brought them to Deerfield, Illinois in 1973 and then a final transfer to Richmond, Virginia in 1982. She devoted her life to her husband and family. Emma was able to create a loving and beautiful home no matter where they lived. She took pride in her decorating skills and loved to entertain. She was a creative fashion designer in school and designed her own wedding dress. Later those skills would be used to sew clothes for her children, curtains, and intricate doll clothes. Her hobbies included tennis and golf. After moving to Virginia she became involved in acting for TV, commercials, and movies. Her biggest role was the Snake Screamer in Disney’s First Kid with the actor Sinbad. She loved to read, knit, play Scrabble, go to thrift stores, and reflect on places she and Roland travelled to around the country and around Europe. She enjoyed reminiscing about days gone by and reminded us all to love each other because life is short. Her wit, humor, love, loyalty to family, friends and neighbors made Emma the strong, independent woman we all loved. Her legacy of loving, respecting, and caring for others will be carried on by her children and those she loved so much. She taught us life lessons until her final breath. A visitation will be held Friday July 19th at the Huguenot Chapel at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. from 10 to 11 am. A private family Celebration of Life and burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or Crater Community Hospice (cratercommunityhospice.org). Online condolences may be made via woodyfuneralhome.com.
