Bernard “Sonny” Guy Broughman, Jr, 87, of North Chesterfield, VA peacefully passed away on December 27, 2023 in his home surrounded by loved ones.
Sonny was born on February 5, 1936 to Bernard “Bern” Guy Broughman and Leona Goodbar Broughman in Clifton Forge, VA.
After Sonny graduated from Clifton Forge High School in 1955, he served in the United States Army. After his military service, he built his career at Sears where he retired after a number of years. Sonny was passionate about business, starting and managing his own rental property company with his wife since the 1960s. Sonny married his sweetheart, Victoria “Vicki” Hall Broughman, on February 19,1960. Sonny and Vicki went on to have one son, Michael “Lance” Broughman.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Bern & Leona; his sisters, Juanita Broughman Greene and Jean Broughman Price; and his brother Wayne Allan Broughman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vicki Hall Broughman; his son, Michael “Lance” Broughman of North Chesterfield; grandchildren, Nicole and Marshall Broughman both of Glen Allen; great granddaughters, Ryann Musselman of Fredericksburg and Emilia Broughman of Glen Allen; and a host of family and friends.
A visitation for Sonny will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 2-4pm at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113, followed by a funeral service at 4pm. A visitation and graveside service will be held in Clifton Forge at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, stjude.org/donate.
