Obie Baxter Harris, 100, of Ridgeway, VA went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2018. Obie was born in Ridgeway, VA on September 30, 1917 to the late Luther J. Harris and Nannie Cox Harris.
He retired with 30 years of service from Dupont in Martinsville, VA. and was a member of the First Church of the Brethren in Eden, NC.
Obie was married to Annie Lou Nolen for 58 years until her death in 2008. Obie was also preceded in death by brothers Everett Harris and Tony Harris and sister Hallie Moore. He is survived by daughters Karen (Hursel “Gene”) Chaney of Martinsville, VA, Brenda Keesee of Collinsville, VA, and Julie (William “Bill”) Wingfield of Roanoke, VA; six grandchildren - Brandon (and wife Christin) Chaney, Austin Keesee, Olivia Keesee, Elizabeth Wingfield, Allison Wingfield, and Baxter Wingfield; three great-granddaughters - Jasalyn Thomas, Addison Chaney and Rylee Chaney. In addition, he is survived by two sisters - Margaret H. Parcell and Eloise H. Frazier, six nephews, and three nieces. Special thanks to caregivers Olivia Keesee and Mary Frances Ross, as well as Mountain Valley Hospice.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 7th at Collins-McKee Funeral Home in Martinsville from 10-11 am. The funeral will follow at 11 am at the funeral home with Chaplain Jeff Rhea officiating. Burial will follow immediately at the Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Church of the Brethren, 730 Church Street, Eden, NC or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 730 E Church Street #13, Martinsville, VA 24115.
