William Thomas “Sonny” Maxey, 80, of Forest passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Lynchburg, July 3, 1933, he was the son of the late John William Maxey and Lessie Talley Maxey. Sonny proudly served his country in U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was retired from McGuire-Johnson Concrete finishing and was a member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church and a long time member of Red Oak Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Nellie Elliott preceded him in death.
Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Wood Maxey and is survived by his wife Geneva Maxey of Forest. He is also survived by two step-sons, Robert F. “Bobby” Cyrus and his wife Julie of Lynchburg and Donald Talley and his wife Debbie of Forest; two step-daughters, Linda Tubbs of Lynchburg and Joann Quade and her husband Sam of Murrells Inlet, SC; three sisters Mary Shepherd of Forest, Virginia Parrish of Lynchburg and Pearl Campbell of Madison Heights; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014 at Calvary Cross Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
