Sandy Alexander Garrett, Jr., 83, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anita Dodd Garrett.
Born in Phenix, Virginia, June 24, 1934 he was the son of the late Sandy A. Garrett and Allie Garrison Garrett. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 30 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Phenix. Sandy enjoyed motorcycles, buying antiques and loved his pets.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Tami K. Garrett of Lynchburg; one son, Mark T. Garrett and his wife Debra of Forest; one step-son, Larry B. Dixon and his wife Nancy of Charlotte Court House; one brother Horace Garrett of Lynchburg and six grandchildren, Mark Garrett, Jr., David Garrett, Hailey Garrett, Billy Dixon, Beth Shook and Kristyna Weston.
One brother, Ray Garrett preceded him in death.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Dr. Bob Phillips, II officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 36 & 232.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Lynchburg Humane Society.
