Emmitt Carroll Martin, 84, of Madison Heights passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Frances Elizabeth Crawford Martin.
Born in Amherst County, March 11, 1928, he was a son of the late James Hance Martin and Louella Staton Martin. He was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 20 years of service and was a member of Eternal Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Martin, Hester Martin and Doss Martin; his sisters, Georgie M. Mays, Odell Davis and adopted children, Eleanor Mae Martin (Lucy), Donald P. Martin (Chuckie) and Robert D. Martin (RD).
He is survived by four adopted children, William “Billy” Martin and his wife Hazel of Rustburg, David Martin and his wife Roberta of Madison Heights, Betty Longest of Richmond and Hazel M. Nye of Florida; one sister, Essie Quinn of Martinsville; one brother, Ed Martin of Madison Heights; a special niece Mary A. Simpson (Mokey) of Lynchburg and a special brother in law, James B. Mays of Madison Heights and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with Pastor J. Mike Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the funeral home and at other times at his residence.
