Dorothy (Dot) Howell Wojdyla, 90, of Lynchburg, passed away, Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Louis Anthony Wojdyla. Born in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Richard Howell and the late Violet Huff Howell. Dorothy was a retired sales clerk for Belk Department Stores. She was also a former graphic designer for station WLVA, which is now WSET 13. Dorothy had a love for painting pictures, and she was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Dorothy was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother, Richard John Howell and one sister, Violet H. “Buddy” Jordan. Dorothy is survived by her children, Richard L. Wojdyla and his wife Brenda of Forest, Ronald S. Wojdyla and his wife Debbie of Roanoke, Mark H. Wojdyla and his wife Carria of Moneta, Daniel J. Wojdyla and his wife Cindy of Rustburg and Linda W. Smith and her husband Bruce of Lynchburg; two sisters, Mary H. Dorshal and Beverly H. Hardy, both of Syracuse, NY; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, and at other times at the residence. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Patricia Pletke, Dr. Rebecca Young and the nursing staff of the English Ward at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Special thanks are also expressed to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for their care and support to Dorothy. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
