Nécrologie de Nicholas Edward Porten Sr.
Nicholas Edward Porten Sr., 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Nicholas was born November 21, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of the late Edward Andrew and Mary Agnes Porten. After graduating from Cathedral High School, Nick served five years as a military policeman in the US Army. Nick worked for Indiana Bell for 18 years and Pinnacle Point for 8 years before retiring. However, retired was the last thing he was. As the youngest of 8 siblings, Nick was constantly on the go, helping where he could, and rarely missed their Wednesday luncheons. He liked to travel, but truly loved being at home with his siblings. Nick married Frances Williams in 1964 and started to grow their family. As the father of 6 himself, he helped instill the importance of family to his children, hosting several 4th of July parties for the entire Porten family and the traditional week every summer at Raccoon Lake. There was a get together for every holiday, and circle of chairs widened a little every year. He was a very proud grandpa to 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Nick was their biggest fan, travelling to Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, and even Missouri to watch them in their events. Nick was an avid Notre Dame fan, teaching his children the Notre Dame fight song, before the alphabet. He enjoyed watching the games with his kids, brothers, and nephews. Nick loved to hunt and fish, and was super competitive at the annual Porten fishing contest, often checking his bait lines in the middle of the night. He will be remembered for his praiseworthy storytelling and sense of humor. Although the last two years of his life was not what he had imagined, he kept a smile on his face and always had a quip to make people laugh. Nicholas is survived by his children; Nicholas E. Porten, Jr., Katherine England (John), Kimberly Denham, Amy Smith (Parker), Ann Porten, and Michael Porten (Trish), grandchildren; Chris, Jon, Kaitlyn, Justin, Mackenzie, Cayman, Ema, Ethan, Joshua, and Walter and great grandchildren; Brayden, Clay, Elijah, Grayson and Brynnleigh, siblings; Dave Porten, Mary Powers, Rosie Griffin and Jeanne Jett. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary Porten, brothers Joe Porten, and Edward Porten, sister Delores Boston. A visitation for Nicholas will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Family Funeral Care-Rockville West, 5791 Rockville Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46224.
