Karla Marie Bates 
July 13, 1976 – September 9, 2024 
 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karla Marie Bates, a beloved high school biology teacher. Karla's life was a testament to her passion for education and her unwavering love for her family & students. Born in Vallejo, California, to Linda Ingram and Paul Sykes, Sr, Karla later moved to Indianapolis, where she dedicated her life to raising her children and pursuing her career in education. Her enthusiasm for science and genuine care for all her students and their well-being left a lasting impact over her 9 years at Greenwood High School. Karla is survived by her cherished children, Carlea Sykes and Anthony Tunstall; her devoted younger brother, Paul Sykes; her loving younger sister, Alisha Sykes; and her beloved niece, Mai'Lisha Strane, and precious grandson, Andre Conner. Karla is pre-deceased by her son, Andrew Tunstall, and parents, Linda and Paul. Karla's family and friends will remember her for her contagious laugh, kind heart, and sweet nature towards all who were blessed to know her. A memorial service to honor Karla's life and contributions will be held on Saturday September 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Little & Sons funeral home 4901 E stop 11 Rd Indianapolis Indiana 46237. Karla will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her loved ones. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched and the lessons she imparted.
