John Robert Szott

John Robert Szott of Indianapolis passed away on June 26, 2023 at St Vincent Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. John was born on July 20, 1944 in Jersey City, NJ. He pursued a Masters in Engineering, and was a Retired Air Force captain and Engineer. After his retirement he moved to Indianapolis, where he dedicated his time to volunteering as a neighborhood board member, cheering on his grandkids, walking his grand-dog and as a ballet taxi driver. On weekends, with his son-in-law, he loved cheering on IU, The Colts and any underdog. John is fondly remembered for his strong personality, witty sense of humor, and intense love for his family. His engineering background made him the first one to fix things or put them together and his large heart supported and healed so many times. He was a loyal and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and Veteran, and he will be dearly missed. John is survived by Dolores M. Szott, his wife; Cynthia (Jim) Tolbert, his daughter; Lisa (Peter) Rohan, his daughter; Grace, Lexi, Jack Tolbert; and Elsie, Ashlie, Jacob Rohan, his grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, Brenda and John Szott; and his brother, Ed Szott. A private service in honor of John will be held at a location and time to be determined. Following the service, a Military burial will be held. The family wishes to express their gratitude for all who have supported and prayed for them during this difficult time.
