Rev, James H. Rogers 100, of Indianapolis, passed away October 1, 2014. He was born August 25, 1914 in Beech Grove, IN to Ora and Elizabeth (Gill) Rogers, one of twelve children He was ordained by Most Reverend Joseph E. Ritter for the Indianapolis Diocese at St. Meinard Archabbey May 30, 1939. He served as assistant pastor at Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove in 1939, served in Diocese of Indianapolis Motor Missions 1941 - 1943, assistant pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Evansville1942-1946, administrator of Holy Angels Catholic Church in New Harmony 1946-1948 then pastor from 1949-1952, administrator of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Mt Vernon 1951-1952, pastor and founding priest of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh 1952-1969, Dean of Newburg Deanery 1964-1969, Diocesan Consultor 1958-1964, Society of St. James the Apostle served in Lima, Peru: Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Guayquill, Ecuador 1969-1971, co-pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church in Evansville 1971-1974, then pastor 1974-1979, retired in 1979. He became full time chaplain with the Indianapolis Police Department from 1979-1982. From 1982 until 2005 he helped in parishes where requested from masses, homilies and administration of sacraments. Visitation will be Wednesday October 8 at St. Paul Hermitage from 12 pm 2 pm and at Little Flower Catholic Church from 5 – 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 9 at 11 am at Little Flower Catholic Church. Entombment will be at St Joseph Cemetery. Father James is survived by his sister Rita Luellen and several nieces and nephews. Memorials in Father James’s name may be made to St. Meinrad Archabbey or St Paul Hermitage.
