Dr. James C. Jinks, February 16, 1933 - June 30, 2024. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. He died how he lived, with Love, Joy and Gratitude toward his family, friends and patients. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35. James C. (“Dr. Jinks”) Jinks passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024. He was 91 years old and loved to say, “Everyday is a great day; some are better than others.” His overwhelmingly positive attitude, and heart of Christian faith characterized his life and influenced everyone he met. Born in Indianapolis, IN to Clifford Herrmann Jinks, M.D. and Edna Ruth Hostetter Jinks. Dr. Jinks graduated from Shortridge High School in 1951, Indiana University in 1955, Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1962 and Riley Hospital Pediatric Graduate School 1964. Dr. Jinks practiced Pediatric Dentistry in Indianapolis and in Syracuse, Indiana for 44 years. Dr. Jinks was a member of Zeta Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta Dental fraternity, I.U. School of Dentistry Pediatric Alumni Association, (President), and taught for 15 years at Riley Hospital Dental Clinic. Dr. Jinks was a leader of Boy Scout Troup 56, Camping Director, and coach to many in little league sports. He was an Indianapolis Gun Club member and sporting clay enthusiast. He served as an Usher for many years at St. Luke’s Methodist Church then transferred his membership and service to College Park Church and, ultimately, became a devoted member of the Naples Gathering Church upon moving to Florida in retirement. Dr. Jinks was happiest when he was walking the fields and streams of the Indiana countryside with family and friends, working with his beloved hunting dogs, or fishing throughout the U.S. or Canada. Dr. Jinks was seen throughout his life at Lake Wawasee and for 15 years the resident owner of a cottage, affectionately called the Redwood Inn, with an endless stream of friends and family as he hosted and entertained from the grill or the boat. Dr. Jinks is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia L. Jinks, his two children and their families: Daughter, Julie Jinks Dowd and her sons Daniel Dowd and Zachary Dowd, and Daniel’s son Aiden MacKenzie Dowd; Son, Jeffrey J. Jinks (Gina) and their children and grandchildren, Ryan P. McGinley (Marlaina), Kelly M. McGinley and her daughter, Stella M. Iaria, Timothy B. Hawkins (Claire) and their daughter Cecelia E. Hawkins, Samson R. Jinks, and Walker J. Jinks; Dr. Jinks’s sister Jeanette J. Horrall, Nephews Stephen B. Horrall, L. Scott Horrall (Donna) and their children and grandchildren; Dr. Jinks’s Sister-in-Law Barbara Smothers, Nephew Steven S. Baxter (Kathy) and their children and grandchildren; Niece Stacy L. Schneider (Neal), and their children and grandchildren. A Calling and Memorial service will be held at the Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery on Saturday, July 27th. The Calling begins at 12:30 p.m. The funeral service is at 1:30 p.m., immediately followed by a graveside tribute and then a time of fellowship in the Chapel.
