Dolores (Doe) Marsh Quill
age 84, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2014. She was born the third of four children on May 13, 1929 in Anderson, IN to Mary Louise Pitts Marsh and Charles Hubert Marsh. Dolores attended St. Mary’s College at Notre Dame and graduated from Anderson College (now University) with a B.A. in History and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University. She taught at the former Highland High School in Anderson and St. Matthew Grade School in Indianapolis. She also substitute taught at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.
Doe and her husband, Joe Quill, were married in the first building on the University of Notre Dame campus, the Log Chapel, by the Rev. Charles Carey C.S.C. She quickly settled into married life and motherhood in Indianapolis. Doe’s interests included reading, golfing, gardening and taking care of her cats. Doe was a member of the Brendonridge Garden Club, the Indianapolis Athletic Club and Indian Lake Country Club.
Doe also volunteered for several organizations in the Indianapolis area. For many years, she and Joe were active in fundraising for Cathedral High School which included hosting an annual gift gathering party for the Shamrauction. She took pride in writing descriptions for the Shamrauction catalog of gifts. Doe was also an active volunteer with Indiana Swimming. While her daughters were at Notre Dame, Doe became known for the fried chicken she served at her Logan Center tailgaters. After graduation, her daughters’ friends and their families continued to visit for chicken and a libation after the game. Joe said the house smelled like a KFC restaurant the Friday before home games. Doe loved to travel. Her favorite destinations included England, Ireland, Scotland and Germany which she visited several times with Joe.
In addition to her parents, Doe was predeceased by her brothers, Richard and Charles Marsh. Survivors include her husband of almost 50 years, Joe Quill, of Indianapolis; daughters, Adrienne Quill (Kriss Anderson) of Kettering, OH and Annette Quill (Scott Burnham) of Golden, CO; and five grandchildren: Murphy and Roland Anderson and Cecelia, Charlotte and Josephine Burnham. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Marsh, of Anderson, as well as several nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 am on Wednesday, April 2nd at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11:00 am in St. Matthew Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Paul Shikany. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1st at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary (71st and Keystone). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Cathedral High School, Holy Cross Catholic Church or to The Little Sisters of the Poor. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Senior Living and Seasons Hospice for the wonderful care Doe received.
