H. Richard Rosengarten died on Friday, February 10. Born on October 19, 1927 in Indianapolis, he was a resident of the city throughout his life with the exception of his military service and attendance at college. Dick married Mary Dolores Brinkmann on October 14, 1950. They were married until her death in 2012. He is survived by four children: Rick (Margaret Mitchell), Jean, Jim (Eda Kauffman), and Mary Beth. His extended family includes nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dick was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and the University of Notre Dame; his college attendance was interrupted by one year of service in the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged in 1947 as a corporal. His professional career included employment in personnel and public relations at St. Vincent’s Hospital (1950-54), Norways Foundation Hospital (1954-57), Purdue University-Indianapolis (1968) and Citizens Gas and Coke Utility (1956-68; 1969-1986). In retirement, Dick volunteered as a reader and substitute Station Manager for Central Indiana Radio Reading, a service for the blind and print-handicapped. He also served as a Commissioner on the Indiana State Employee Appeals Commission and together with Mary on the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ Vocations Assessment Committee. Dick was also a member of the Indianapolis Literary Club, serving as its Secretary for a decade and for a term as President. He was a devout Roman Catholic, and at the time of his death a parishioner at St. Pius X. All who knew him will miss him deeply. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana. There will also be visitation at the church Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis.
