Nécrologie de Delbert Lawrence
On Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 11:47 p.m. the Lord swept away to heaven our beloved Delbert. Delbert was born October 13, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha Lawrence and Beulah Phillips Lawrence. Delbert had 12 siblings. He was next to the youngest child, and all preceded him in death. Delbert grew up in Bowling Green (Delafield), Kentucky. He attended High Street High School. He was a gifted football player. After High School, Delbert enlisted in the Air Force and served 4 years at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After his honorable discharge he returned to Bowling Green, but soon after moved to Indianapolis. Delbert found employment with Allision where he was a Foreman and a Tool Engineer. He retired after 30 years and later was employed with Lawrence Township Schools for 11 years. He also volunteers as a Precinct Committee Man for Meridian Kessler Neighborhood. Delbert was a member of Northside New Era Baptist Church. Delbert enjoyed sports. He loved football and was an avid golfer. Delbert went to the Indy 500 with lifelong friend Terry Patter for 35 years. Delbert was addicted to politics, especially MSNBC. Delbert loved kids and enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises. Delbert was a leader (along with his best friend Larry Dodson) in an organization called PMAC. This organization was instrumental in changing the treatment of minority employees especially promotions at Allison. In 1969, Delbert married Doris Myles (my girl he called her). They were blessed with 3 children. Delbert was an amazing father and a doting grandad; nothing was too good for his family. Delbert came from very humble beginnings. His dad died when he was 12. Delbert had a lifelong commitment of helping others. He had a big giving heart. He always said he was so blessed and specially to live to 80. Delbert leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years Doris, his sons Delbert Jr. (Jamella), Darin Sr. (Cori), a daughter Dawn Renee, 3 grandchildren, Darin Jr., Nyjah and Kiya, 2 step grandchildren, Maalik and Myles Houston, 2 Goddaughters, Robin Henry and Kasee Leturgez and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends A visitation for Delbert will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
