Nécrologie de Carolyn L. Carter
Carolyn Lucille Carter was born August 22, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the youngest of two children born to Alexander and Lucille Carter. Her brother, Alexander ‘Fuzz’ Jr., was 2 years her senior. Carolyn received her elementary education in the Indianapolis Public School system and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She was raised by her aunt, Sister Helen Valentine, who brought the children to Christ Temple as youths, where they attended Sunday School and were introduced to the Lord Jesus and the way of holy living. Entering young adulthood, Carolyn developed a love for shopping and traveling. She was blessed to visit several states and famous landmarks. She was employed at I.U. Methodist hospital, retiring in 2004 after 40 years of service through that institution. Her last assignment there was as a Patient Care Assistant in the Pediatric Unit. She often spoke of the delight and fulfillment experienced as she shared smiles and laughter with the infants, children, and families for whom she provided care and support. Carolyn came to saving faith in Christ as a mature adult and became a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly Church. She immediately began serving the Lord in service to His people. She was a faithfully committed member of the noon-day prayer band and the sick-and-shut-in ministry, serving with Sisters Juanita Bowman, Evangeline Thurston, Betty Craig, and Elder Willie Bland. She provided special care and support to Mother Bennie Esters and Sister Bowman as time neared for their heavenly transitions. She provided transportation for many persons, fellow church members and otherwise, with barely a second thought. She was also faithful to the Sunday School and the Women’s Auxiliary. Carolyn lived for several years at the Crook Creek Tower Senior living community where she coordinated a weekly Bible Study for the residents. She later relocated to the Evergreen Crossing Community where, though she was herself a patient, she was often seen assisting other residents, pushing their wheelchairs and giving other support. Carolyn’s humble service was acknowledged when Evergreen sponsored a full billboard ad at 56th & Georgetown Rd. that featured Carolyn and her infectious smile. She had a great sense of humor and such robust laughter. Carolyn’s life was centered on honoring God and rendering sacrificial service to His people. She absolutely loved being in the House of God and fellowshipping with the saints. Carolyn passed during the early morning hours of February 9, 2023, at the age of 80 years. Her parents, aunt, and brother all preceded her in death. Her surviving family and friends are cousins: Jewell Carter-Jones, Carlo and Deryc (Alta) Jennings, Theodore and Benjamin Jones, and Jennifer Jones-Ealy, dear friend, Mereda Duncan, caretakers and trusted friends, U.Z. Tinker and Elder Willie Bland, and her beloved Christ Temple Family. A visitation for Carolyn will be held Monday, February 20, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Carter family.
